What visitors see when you pause orders, when you are outside your order hours, and when the website is not yet live, suspended or a demo.
The website status decides whether visitors can see the store. Your ordering switches decide whether they can place an order.
With Ready For Delivery off, customers can still browse and fill the cart, but checkout is blocked.
| Where | Customer sees |
|---|---|
| Checkout | "We are not taking orders right now", your Not Ready For Delivery Message when you wrote one, and "Your cart is saved. Please come back later to place your order." |
| Header or product page, with the theme notice on | Your message, or a line such as "We’re not taking orders right now." or "Closed now" |
With Enable Order Time Limit on, orders are taken only between Order Time Limit Start and Order Time Limit End. Outside those hours checkout is blocked in the same way, with "We open at" and the time before the start.
If customers can schedule orders, a checkout outside the order hours still takes orders for a later day: "We are closed right now" and "You can still order — choose a day for your order below." See Let customers schedule orders.
Business hours never close the checkout. Only the pause switch and the order time limit do.
To change this: General delivery settings. The notice is the theme setting Show "closed now" notice. See Theme settings: brand and store features.
With Store Status Banner on, themes that show the notice tell visitors whether you are open, from your business hours.
| State | Example |
|---|---|
| Open | "Open now · until" and the closing time |
| Closing soon | "Closing soon · closes at" and the time, from Closing Soon (Minutes) before closing |
| Closed | "Closed now — opens" and the next opening time |
The banner is information only. With several locations it follows the store serving the customer.
To change this: Store status banner and opening hours.
While the website status is Password protected, every address leads to a page titled "Opening soon": "This shop is not open to the public yet. Enter the password to continue." The password opens the store.
To change this: Password page and preview password.
| Website status | Visitors see |
|---|---|
| Draft | "This shop has not opened yet." You still see your preview from the editor |
| Suspended | "This shop is temporarily unavailable." |
To change this: Store status and going live. If your store is suspended, contact support.
A demo store takes cash or card on delivery only and is kept out of search engines. Loading the demo also opens a draft or password-protected website to the public. Removing the demo data puts the earlier status back. See Try the demo store.
To change this: Remove the demo data.
