Change a customer's details, and understand why sign-in details can only be changed on accounts you created.
The edit page, titled Update Customer, holds the customer's details at the top and several panels below it. A sample customer from the demo store carries a Demo badge beside the title.
On Customers › Customers, select the pencil on the customer's card.
Partner ID appears only when partner commission is on for your shop. It accepts letters, numbers, dashes and underscores.
Select Update. You return to the list. The confirmation there reads "Manager updated successfully."; it means the customer was saved.
A customer account belongs to the customer, not to one shop. The same person can use one account at several shops. So you may change the name, e-mail, phone and password only on an account that is yours:
In practice that means accounts you created with Add a customer that the customer has not signed in to yet.
On every other account, changing one of those four fields is refused with:
"This customer's account is also used at other shops (or is a staff account): only your shop's details can be changed here."
Partner ID is your shop's own data and can always be changed.
The customer's wallet, groups, approval and free delivery are on the customer's card in the list. Addresses and orders are not shown here: open the customer's orders from Orders on the card.
