What happens when new sign-ups are closed for your shop, and how to add customers yourself.

Who can use this

Shop owner

By default anyone can create an account at your shop. Registration can be closed, so that only people you add can have an account.

Who controls it

The switch is called Disable Customer Registration. It is on a settings tab that only platform staff see, so your Shop › Settings page does not show it. Ask support to turn it on or off.

A related platform switch, Enable Customer Approval, keeps registration open but makes each new customer wait for you. See Approve customers.

With registration open

Customers sign up on your website or app with the methods you chose. See Customer sign-in methods.
Anyone who places an order is added to your customers automatically.
The customers list has no Add button.

With registration closed

The website refuses a new account, whether by phone code, password or Google, with "This shop isn't accepting new accounts." Sign-up and code sign-in in the app refuse a new account too.
Existing customers keep signing in as before.
The Add button appears on the customers list, and an empty list offers Add a customer. See Add a customer.

Guests

Whether people can order without an account is a separate choice: Enable Guest Checkout on the Order Settings tab. Closing registration does not by itself switch guest checkout on or off.
