A domain you connect moves through the steps below without any action from you once the DNS records are in place.
Statuses
| Chip | Meaning | What to do |
|---|
| Waiting for your DNS records | The TXT record with the verification code has not been found | Add the records. See DNS records to add |
| Checking your records | The TXT record is there. The domain does not point at the store yet | Add or correct the CNAME, ALIAS or A record |
| Getting the security certificate | Both records are right. The domain is being set up for https | Wait, or select Check now |
| Connected | The domain serves your store over https | Optionally make it the main address |
| Could not connect | The records were not found within 72 hours, or the domain was refused | Fix the records first, then select Check now |
Beside the chip, "checked …" says when the last check ran. A red line under it gives the last problem found, for example:
- "No TXT record _msverify.… with the verification code yet."
- "The domain does not point at the store yet (CNAME / A record)."
- "Waiting for the certificate."
- "The DNS records were not found in time."
- "DNS check failed 2 — the DNS records no longer point at the store." on a connected domain whose records have changed. The number counts the failed checks in a row.
Your free address shows Free address, and the address in use shows Main address.
Check now
The store re-checks a new domain at growing intervals. It stops 72 hours after you connected the domain, when the chip becomes Could not connect.
Check now runs one check at once. It answers with one of:
- "… is connected."
- "We cannot see the records yet. They can take up to 48 hours to spread; we keep checking."
- "We could not connect …."
On a domain marked Could not connect, correct the records before you select Check now. The 72 hours are not started again: if the check does not find the records, the chip returns to Could not connect shortly afterwards, even though the message says "we keep checking". Select Check now again once the records have spread.
The security certificate
You do not buy or upload a certificate. The platform arranges it once the domain points at the store and the chip reads Connected.
The warning e-mail
Connected domains are checked every hour. If a domain no longer points at your store on two checks in a row, the shop owner receives an e-mail with the subject "Action needed:" and the domain, headed "Your store domain needs attention", with an Open Domains button.
- Nothing is switched off. The domain stays Connected, but visitors may not reach your website.
- It usually means the DNS records were changed or removed at your domain provider. Put the pointing record back.
- The e-mail is sent once a day at most and stops when the records are found again.
