What customers enter in the first checkout step, when a guest must confirm a phone number, and where the marketing consent box comes from.
The first checkout step collects who the order is for. A customer either continues as a guest or logs in.
| Your setting | What the customer sees |
|---|---|
| Enable Guest Checkout on | Fields for "Full name", "Mobile number" and e-mail, with "Have an account?" and "Log in" beside them |
| Enable Guest Checkout off | "Log in to check out". The text explains that the shop takes orders from registered customers only. The cart is kept |
| Customer approval on | The same as guest checkout off, whatever the guest switch says |
A signed-in customer reads "Signed in as …" and their saved details are filled in.
The login link opens the same sign-in choices as the login page. See Customer sign-in.
| Field | Rule |
|---|---|
| Mobile number | Must have the number of digits of your country, "without the country code". A country picker appears when you accept numbers from more than one country |
| Reads "Email (optional)", or "Email" when your shop requires an e-mail address |
To change this: accepted countries are Checkout Phone Countries. See Maps, location and banner settings. Requiring an e-mail address is Enable Email Required Validation on the Email Settings tab. See Email Settings reference. If your settings page has no such tab, ask support.
With Verify Phone With OTP on, a guest must confirm the mobile number before the order is placed.
The step reads "We will text you a code to confirm your number." with a "Send code" button.
The guest types the code and selects "Verify". The step then reads "Number verified". A new code can be requested after a short wait.
With Allow Pay On Delivery Without OTP on, a guest who chooses cash on delivery skips the code and reads "No verification code needed for cash on delivery."
To change this: Shop › Settings › Order Settings. See Guest checkout and gift order settings.
When you collect marketing consent, the contact step shows a box that reads "Send me offers by …", naming your channels: email, WhatsApp, SMS. The same box appears when a customer creates an account.
To change this: see How marketing consent works and Marketing consent.
