Effect
Optional (verify later, when a code is needed)
The default. The phone is confirmed later
Required (sign-up ends with a code sent to the phone)
Sign-up finishes only after the customer types the code
Required only works while a phone code can be delivered. If none can, the shop behaves as Optional.
Phone code delivery
Phone code delivery is a status box. It tells you whether a code can really be sent.
Line
Meaning
"SMS: on"
Codes go by SMS
"SMS: off — the SMS gateway is not fully configured (SMS settings)"
SMS codes are enabled but the provider is missing details
"SMS: off — enable SMS sign-in codes in SMS settings"
SMS codes are not enabled
"WhatsApp: on (platform)" or "WhatsApp: off"
Whether codes can go by WhatsApp
"E-mail: on (password reset codes only)"
E-mail never carries sign-in codes
"E-mail: off (password reset codes cannot be e-mailed)"
No password reset by e-mail
When neither SMS nor WhatsApp is on, the box warns: "No phone code can be delivered: the website hides code sign-in, and phone verification cannot be required."
When nothing works
If no sign-in method is left and Google is off, the website's login page shows "Sign-in isn't available right now", and "You can still check out as a guest." when guest checkout is on.
Saving
Select Save Settings. A customer who is on the login page when you switch a method off sees "This way of logging in was just switched off by the shop. Use the other one."
