How the fields work together
Own provider first. Fields 2 to 7 and the provider blocks count only while Use my own SMS provider is on. While it is off, the platform's shared settings decide.
A code needs a switch and a gateway. Either code switch makes SMS a code channel on your website, at guest checkout and at the point of sale, but only if the Default SMS Gateway is chosen and its required details are filled. With an empty gateway nothing is sent. See Customer sign-in codes.
The secondary gateway is for resends. With Enable Secondary SMS Gateway on and a provider chosen, a code that a customer asks for again goes through the secondary provider. This applies at guest checkout and in the customer app. Resent website sign-in codes, first sends and order SMS always use the default gateway. It is not an automatic fallback when the default provider fails.
The test gateway sends nothing.Dummy (For Testing) pretends every message was sent. Do not leave it selected on a live shop: it never counts as a working code channel.
The code message
Without a custom template the message is "Your OTP to login to (shop) is "(code)" send from (sender name)". With Enable Custom SMS Template on, your text is used.
