Who can use this
Shop owner
By default an online gateway sends the customer to the provider's payment page and back. Eight gateways can instead take the payment on your website's checkout page.
Remote API key; Seamless integration enabled by Telr
These switches change the website checkout only. A demo store never uses them.
What happens when something is missing
The switch alone is not enough. While a needed field is empty, the card shows "Not on the checkout page yet — customers are sent to the … payment page until you fill in: …". Customers can still pay, but they leave your site to do it.
Stock is held while the customer pays
The order is created waiting for payment and its stock is held for a limited time. A payment that is not finished in that time is cancelled with the provider. A late payment whose items are still in stock is placed normally.
A payment that never becomes an order is refunded
If an on-page payment succeeds but cannot pay an order, the platform refunds it in full, automatically, once. This happens when:
the customer paid after the stock hold ran out and stock no longer covers the order;
the customer paid an older attempt after starting a newer one;
the amount or currency paid is not what the payment was created for;
the order is gone, cancelled, or already paid by another payment.
A refund the provider does not accept is tried again after 1, 5, 15 and 60 minutes, and once more after 6 hours. If it still fails, it is flagged on your orders list. See Payments needing attention.
Apple Pay needs your domains registered
Stripe and Checkout.com register your store address and every active custom domain with your account automatically, after you save with the checkout-page switch on. Each card lists the domains with their status. Until a domain is registered, Apple Pay is hidden on it.
Direct card gateways are different
eWay and ADCB take the card details in the customer app. The website checkout does not offer them.
