Enter counted quantities by typing or by scanning barcodes, check the differences, and finish counting.
Open a count with the status Counting from the Stocktakes list. The page is titled with the count's number.
Select Add to count, or let the scanner send Enter. Each scan adds to the product's count, so scanning the same item three times counts 3.
A barcode that matches no stock-tracked product answers "No stock-tracked product has this barcode."

The search box finds a product by name or barcode.

| Units short, Units over | Total missing and surplus units |
| Value short, Value over | The same in money, for people who may see costs. Products with no cost price are left out of the value, and a note says how many |
What happens next depends on who you are:
| You are | Result |

| The owner, or staff of every location | "Count submitted. Review the differences and approve it to update the stock." |
| Staff of some locations, when counts need approval | "Count submitted for approval." The owner or staff of every location approves it |
The stock does not change until the count is approved: see Approve, reopen or cancel a stocktake.
To stop without changing anything, select Cancel count.
The count shows Stock tracking is off: "Your shop does not track stock, so this count is read-only: it can no longer be counted, submitted or approved." Saving, scanning and finishing answer "Stock tracking is off for your shop. Turn it on in Settings to do this." Cancel count still works.
