The titles, sitemap, structured data and redirects your store produces without any work from you, and the few things you can set.
Your store prepares every page for search engines and for sharing on social networks. Most needs no setup.
| Item | What your store does |
|---|---|
| Page title | The page's own title, then " | " and your shop name |
| Home page title | Your SEO title, or your shop name when none is set |
| Home page description | Your SEO description. Without one: your shop description, then the home title from Web Application Settings, then a generated sentence |
| Product and category pages | Their own SEO title and description when you filled them in, otherwise their name and description |
| Share image | The page's image. When there is none, your link preview image, or a generated card |
To change this: Preferences: search engines and site verification, Product SEO and Page SEO in the editor.
Verification codes for Google, Bing and Meta are added to your pages once you save them. If you paste Google's whole tag, only the code inside it is used.
| Address | What it is |
|---|---|
/sitemap.xml | A sitemap index. It links to lists of your products, categories and pages, with every language version |
/robots.txt | Crawl rules. The cart, checkout, account, search results and filtered listings are kept out |
/llms.txt | A plain summary of the store for AI assistants |
Submit /sitemap.xml in Google Search Console once your domain is connected. See Connect your own domain.
| Situation | Result |
|---|---|
| Website status is not live: draft, password protected or suspended | Search engines are told to read nothing |
| A demo store | Pages can be read but are marked not to be indexed. No sitemap or /llms.txt is offered |
See Open, closed, password and demo states.
Pages carry structured data that search engines use for rich results:
| Data | Built from |
|---|---|
| Your business, with address, phone and opening hours | Shop details and business hours |
| Products, with price, availability and pack price | The catalogue |
| Delivery cost | Your delivery charge when it is one flat amount, or free delivery when every order is free |
| Return policy | Your returns settings, when you accept returns |
| Ratings | Published reviews, when reviews are on |
| Breadcrumbs, product lists, questions and answers | Page structure and FAQ sections |
Each page names one preferred address. Language versions point to each other.
When a product's or category's address changes, a redirect from the old address is added for you.
You can add your own rules:
| Rule | Use it for |
|---|---|
| 301 | An address that moved for good |
| 302 | A temporary move |
| 410 | A page that is gone and should be dropped by search engines |
A 410 rule is refused on the address of a live product or an enabled category, and is removed when that item is restored.
Visitors on an older domain are sent to your main address.
To change this: Redirects and Main address and removing domains.
Catalogue feeds for Google and Meta belong to sales channels. See Sales channels overview.
