Your shop sends e-mail either through the platform's shared e-mail service or through your own provider account. Most order e-mails to customers need your own provider.
Two ways of sending
| Way | What is sent | What you can set |
|---|
| The platform's shared e-mail settings | The e-mails under "Other e-mails to customers", when the platform has e-mail on. No order e-mails, except as noted below | Nothing |
| Your own e-mail provider | Everything, from your own address | Everything on Email Settings and Email Notification Settings |
Supported providers
| Provider | How it connects |
|---|
| SendGrid | An API key |
| SendInBlue (the service now called Brevo) | An API key |
| Dummy (For Testing) | Nothing. It sends no e-mail |
Both real providers connect with an API key. There is no SMTP option: you cannot enter a mail server, port, user name and password. A mailbox from Gmail, Outlook or your hosting company cannot be used directly.
Your sending address must be verified with the provider you choose, in the provider's own dashboard.
Getting the Email Settings tab
You cannot open the tab yourself:
- Platform staff must allow your shop to bring its own e-mail provider. Ask support.
- Your plan must include your own SMS and e-mail gateway. Growth and higher plans do.
Then Email Settings appears in Shop › Settings. With Use my own email provider and Enable Emails both on, a second tab appears: Email Notification Settings.
Order e-mails to customers
All but the last have a switch on Email Notification Settings. They go to the customer who placed the order.
| E-mail | Sent when | Needs |
|---|
| "Confirmation of order (number)" | The order is placed | Use my own email provider and Enable Emails |
| Order accepted | You accept the order | The same |
| Order status | A delivery agent accepts it, it is picked up, it is delivered, or it is cancelled | The same |
| Order modified | You change the order without asking for approval | Enable Emails only |
| "Order Modification Request (number)" | You send a change for the customer's approval. It has no switch | Enable Emails only |
The last two do not check Use my own email provider. If Enable Emails is on while your own provider is off, they go through the platform's e-mail service, when the platform has e-mail on.
Other e-mails to customers
These use your shop's e-mail set-up, whichever of the two ways applies.
Marketing e-mails carry an unsubscribe link and follow Consent and quiet hours.
E-mails to your shop
| E-mail | Goes to | Needs |
|---|
| "New Order Received (number)" | Admin Notification "Email" | The address filled in and Enable Emails on. It does not need your own provider |
| Return request alerts | The owner and the managers of the order's location | Notify Me of New Requests |
See Alerts to your shop.
Who never gets e-mail
- Customers without a real e-mail address. Accounts created with only a phone number are skipped.
- Demo orders and demo customers.
