How automatic offers and coupon codes appear to customers, from the product card to the checkout summary.
Customers meet two kinds of discount. An offer applies by itself when the cart qualifies. A discount code is typed in at checkout.
Offers come from your discount rules. A store shows them only when the discount rule engine is running for your shop. See Discount engine modes.
| Where | What the customer sees |
|---|---|
| Product cards and product page | An offer badge, the price before the offer, and a countdown for offers that end |
| Home page | Offer sections, when your theme has them and you added them |
| Cart and checkout | An "Offers" list. An offer that is not reached yet shows a progress bar |
| Order summary | A "Discount" row, and free gifts as lines marked "Free gift" |
| Payment step | A method with its own offer reads "Pay … with … — save …" |
Some offers are for signed-in customers or for chosen locations only. A guest sees "Sign in" beside an offer that needs an account.
To change this: Marketing Tools › Discount rules. See Discount rules and Discount rules: show the offer in the online store. How badges look is a theme setting: Theme settings: product cards and cart.
With coupons on, the checkout order summary has a "Discount code" field with an "Apply" button.
The cart only hints at it: "Have a discount code? Apply it at checkout."
The field is not shown when the cart holds only gift cards.
A link can carry a code so that it is applied when checkout opens. If that code is not valid, the customer reads "This coupon could not be applied". See Links that open the checkout.
To change this: switch on Enable Coupons in General Settings, or the Coupons card in Shop › Features. Then create codes under Marketing Tools › Coupons. See Coupons and Create a coupon.
Whether a code can be used together with an automatic offer is decided by your rules, not by the store. See How discounts combine.
