Upload a picture to a section, describe it, and choose which part stays in view.
Image fields appear in sections such as slideshows and banners, in blocks, in the theme's Brand settings and in Page SEO. They all work the same way.
| Rule | Value |
|---|---|
| Formats | JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF or AVIF |
| Largest file | 8 MB |
| SVG | Not accepted |
The editor sets no limit on width or height in pixels.
Select Upload image and choose a file from your computer. The button shows "Uploading…" while it works.
Instead of uploading, you can paste an address in the field marked "Image URL (https://… or /path)".
Type a short description in "Alt text (describe the image)". There is one alt text per website language; an empty one falls back to the default language.
Under Focal point: "Click the image, or use the sliders: this part stays in view when the image is cropped."
Use it when a wide banner is cropped on phones and the subject would otherwise be cut off.
The draft saves by itself and the preview reloads. Switch between Desktop and Mobile to see how the picture is cropped.
The two number boxes under the focal point are the picture's width and height in pixels. They are filled in when you upload.
| Message | Meaning |

| "Use a JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF or AVIF image." | The file is another format |
| "SVG images can’t be used on a shop. Use a JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF or AVIF image." | Export the picture as PNG or WebP |
| "Images must be 8 MB or smaller. Export it smaller and try again." | Reduce the size or the quality and upload again |
| "That file is empty." | The file has no content |
| "That file is not a readable image." | The file is damaged or is not really a picture |
| "The upload did not finish. Try again." or "Could not reach the server. Check your connection and try again." | The connection dropped |
| "Too many uploads just now. Try again in … seconds." or "Too many uploads just now. Wait a moment and try again." | Your shop uploaded many files in a short time |
| "Your Studio session has ended. Reload this page and open Customize again." | See Open the editor |
Some pictures are not uploaded in the editor at all. Product and category pictures come from the catalogue. A section set to show a slider you manage in the panel takes its pictures from that slider. See Links and pickers.
