Card 6. Code and limits decides how customers get the offer and when it runs out.
Field
Rule
Code
Empty: the offer applies automatically. Filled: only customers who type the code get it
Budget
The rule stops once it has given this much discount
Uses in total
The number of orders that can use the rule. Empty: no limit
Uses per customer
The number of orders one customer can use it on. Empty: no limit
Code
A code has 3 to 64 characters: letters, digits, - and _. It is stored in capitals, and customers can type it in any case. It goes in the same coupon field at checkout as a coupon code.
The code must be unique in your shop. Saving is refused with "A coupon already uses this code.", "Another discount rule already uses this code." or "A bulk discount code already uses this code."
For many single-use codes, save the rule first and use Bulk codes. A rule with bulk codes cannot also have its own code.
Budget
The budget counts the money the rule takes off products and off delivery. On an existing rule the card shows "Used so far".
For money off products, when less than one full discount is left the next order gets what is left. When nothing is left, the rule is no longer offered. A free gift added as its own line and bonus reward points use no budget.
Uses
One order is one use, however many products it discounts. A use, and the budget it took, is given back when the order is cancelled, when an edit takes the offer off the order, or when an online checkout is abandoned without payment. A return or refund gives nothing back.
Uses per customer needs to know the customer. A visitor who is not signed in may see "Sign in to get this offer."
Customer message
Cause
"This offer is no longer available."
Uses or budget ran out, also when another customer took the last one a moment earlier
"You have already used this offer the maximum number of times."
Uses per customer reached
"Coupon is invalid or expired."
The rule is not active, or outside its dates
First-order offers
First order only and Only on order number in card 4 check the customer's history. When the order is placed, such a rule is also held to one use per customer, even with Uses per customer empty.
Wrong-code guard
When someone enters many unknown codes in a short time, checkout answers "Too many invalid codes. Please try again later." Your coupon codes and a rule's own code are never blocked by this.
Editing orders
Changing an order in the panel never fails because of a limit. If an edit takes a rule past its limit or budget, the order still keeps the discount.
