Set which categories sit inside which, for the whole shop at once, from a two-column file.
The category tree is the list of main categories and the sub-categories inside each. The tree tools let you rebuild it in a spreadsheet.
Keep these names in the first row.
| Column | Required | Allowed values | Example |
|---|---|---|---|
Category | Yes | The main category's name. Created if it does not exist | Fruits |
Sub Category | No | A category to put inside it. Leave empty for a main category on its own | Apple |
One row per sub-category, with its main category beside it. A main category with nothing inside gets a row with an empty second column:
| Category | Sub Category |
|---|---|
| Fruits | Apple |
| Fruits | Banana |
| Vegetables | Carrot |
| Bakery |
On Catalogue › Categories, select Tools › Export the category tree, then Create the CSV file.
The file appears under Past exports. Download it and keep an untouched copy before you edit, so you can put the tree back.
Select Tools › Import the category tree.
Drop or select the CSV, up to 10 MB.
Select Upload and check. Nothing changes yet.
Check before importing counts the rows, main categories and sub-categories, and shows The tree on this page: each main category with its sub-categories.
Select Start import and confirm "Replace your whole category tree with this file?". Missing categories are created. Discard drops the file without changing anything.
The tree import only moves categories. Names, pictures and visibility are handled by Import and export categories. To move a single category, open it and change Where does it go? on its form.
