Sell one product in several sizes, colours or weights, each with its own price and stock.
A variable product has options such as Size or Colour. Each combination of option values is a variant with its own price, stock, barcode and picture. Size S, M, L with Colour Red, Blue gives 6 variants.
Turn it on in Shop › Features: the owner selects Turn on on the Product variants card. If you do not see it there, ask support. Variable Product then appears under Add New.
On Catalogue › Products, select Add New › Variable Product. Fill in the name, category and image as for any product. The Price card only says "Each variant has its own price and stock."
Repeat for a second option if you need one. The cross at the end of a row removes that option.
Select Create product, then open the product again from the list.
On the Variants tab, select Generate variants. One variant is created for every combination.
Open each variant, or use the Bulk edit tab to fill them all in one grid. See Variants and Bulk edit variants.
| Tab | Use it to |
|---|---|
| Variants | Edit each variant's price, stock, codes and picture |
| Options | Give each value a colour swatch or picture: see Options |
| Bulk edit | Change all variants in one grid |
The product page header has a convert button.
| Button | What happens |
|---|---|
| Convert to variable | A simple product becomes a variable one. Its price, discounted price, unit and country of origin are cleared and its own stock tracking is switched off, because each variant now holds these. You can then add options and a price per variant |
| Convert to simple | The product becomes a simple one and its Variants tab goes. Delete the variants you no longer want first: converting does not delete them |
Both ask for confirmation first.
A variable product shows a Variable badge with the number of variants, and its price as a range from the cheapest to the dearest variant. Its price and stock cannot be changed from the list.
