Redirects

Send visitors from an old web address to a new one, or mark an address as gone.

Before you start

Adding, importing and removing rules needs the Customize permission. Turn on Online store in Shop › Features. If you do not see it there, ask support.

A redirect keeps old links and search results working after a page moves. Rules apply to your website as soon as you save them; they are not part of the draft.

Add a rule

Type the old and new paths
1. In the first field, type the old path, for example /summer-sale.
2. In the second, type the new path. Leave it empty for a page that is gone.
A path starts with /. If you paste a full address, only its path is kept.
Choose the type
1. Pick one:
Option Use it when
301 — moved for good The page has a new address permanently
302 — moved for now The move is temporary
410 — gone The page no longer exists and has no replacement
Add
Select Add. The panel answers "Saved." A rule for the same old path replaces the earlier one.

Import many rules

Under Import a CSV, choose a file with the columns from,to,status and select Import.

A header row is skipped.
An empty status means 301. A 410 row may leave to empty.
The file must be 2 MB or smaller. At most 2,000 rows are read.
Lines that are not valid are skipped. The panel reports, for example, "Imported 12 rules, skipped 2 lines."

The list

Search paths searches old and new paths.

Each rule shows its old path, the new path with its code or Gone (410), where it came from and how often it was used ("3 hits").

Select Remove and confirm "Remove the rule for …?" to delete a rule. Automatic rules can be removed too.

Messages

Message	Meaning
"The old path must start with / (for example /summer-sale)."	The first field is empty or not a path
"The new path must start with / (or use 410 for a page that is gone)."	A 301 or 302 needs a new path
"A path cannot redirect to itself."	Old and new paths are the same
"A product or collection of your shop is live at …. Hide or delete it first, or redirect the path instead."	You cannot mark a live product or category page as gone
"Choose a CSV file to import." / "The file must be 2 MB or smaller."	The import file is missing or too large

Add a rule
