Preferences: website languages

Choose which of your shop's languages the website is offered in, and which one is the default.

Before you start

Saving needs the Customize permission. Only languages your shop already has are offered. Turn on Online store in Shop › Features. If you do not see it there, ask support.

The Languages card decides "Which of your shop's languages the website is served in."

Tick the languages
Each of your shop's languages is a chip, shown by its code, for example EN and AR. Tick the ones the website should offer.
Choose the default
Pick Default language. "Pages in the default language have no language prefix in their address." Other languages have their code in the address, for example /ar/.
If the default you pick is not one of the ticked languages, the first ticked language becomes the default.
Save
Select Save preferences. The change applies to your website straight away.

At least one language must stay ticked: "Choose at least one language for the website."

What follows from the choice

The list offers only the languages your shop already has. A shop with one language sees one chip. The shop's languages are chosen in store setup; see Where you sell. If you cannot change them there, contact support.
In the editor, text fields have one input per website language. A language left empty falls back to the default language. See Field types.
With more than one language, the editor's top bar has a Preview language picker. See Editor layout.
The names of ready-made layouts on the Themes page follow your website's default language where the theme has a translation.
