What customers see when they follow an abandoned-cart reminder or an ad link that opens checkout with products already chosen.
Not every customer reaches checkout through the cart. Two kinds of link take them straight there.
A reminder sent by WhatsApp, SMS or e-mail links back to the customer's own unfinished checkout.
| Customer reads | Cause |
|---|---|
| "This checkout link has expired" and "Your cart is still saved. Go back to it to start a new checkout." | The link is too old |
| "This order has already been placed" | The customer already ordered from that checkout |
A reminder can mention a coupon code. The link does not apply it; the customer types the code at checkout.
To change this: Marketing Tools › Abandoned carts. See Abandoned carts and Abandoned cart reminders.
A link can open the checkout with chosen products, and optionally a coupon code. Sales channels use this kind of link, for example a "buy" button on a catalogue in Meta.
The customer lands in checkout with those products in the order. The link replaces whatever was in their cart.
| Customer reads | Cause |
|---|---|
| "1 item from the link was unavailable" (or more) | A product in the link is hidden or deleted. The rest are kept |
| "Sold out:" and the names | Those products have no stock |
| "This coupon could not be applied" | The code in the link is not valid for this order |
| "The items in that checkout link are no longer available." | Nothing in the link can be bought. The customer lands in the cart instead |
You do not build these links by hand. They are produced by the sales channel that uses them. See Sales channels.
Both lead into the normal checkout. Every rule on the other pages of this section applies: the minimum order, delivery area, payment methods and guest settings. See Checkout, step by step.
