Before you start
The cash on delivery controls must be on, and your shop must be able to send a code by SMS or WhatsApp.

You turn this on
Who can use this
Shop owner, Shop Manager
A confirmation code makes the customer prove their phone number before a cash on delivery order is placed. It filters out fake numbers and orders nobody will accept at the door.
A code must be deliverable. The online store sends it the same way as a sign-in code, so check the status lines under Phone code delivery. See Customer sign-in methods. The apps send it by WhatsApp when the platform sends codes by WhatsApp, otherwise by SMS. If no code can be delivered, customers who need one cannot finish a cash on delivery order.
Open the Confirmation code part
Go to Customers › COD & risk and find Confirmation code on the first card.
Choose when a code is asked
Ask for a code when the order amount is above. Leave empty to never ask because of the amount.
Ask new customers (no delivered order yet) for a code.
Choose where it is asked
Ask for the code on the online store only is ticked by default.
Save
Select Save.
The online-store-only box
The page explains: "Keep this on until your mobile apps are updated to ask for the code: an older app cannot, and its customers would not be able to pay on delivery when a code is needed. WhatsApp orders never need a code."
So with the box ticked, the code is asked on your website only. In an app, an order that needs a code cannot be paid on delivery, and the customer reads "Cash on delivery for this order needs a confirmation code, which this app cannot ask for yet. Please pay online, or order on our website." Untick the box only when your apps can ask for the code.
A third trigger: the risk score
A customer whose score reaches Ask for a code from score is also asked for a code. See COD risk score.
What the customer does
At checkout the customer receives a code on their phone and types it in. The number of codes one phone can request is limited. A wrong code is answered with "That code is not right. Request a new one and try again."
On the order
An order confirmed this way shows Confirmed with a code in its COD risk panel, and a tick on its COD badge in the orders list. The returns report counts Orders confirmed with a code.
