The till works only while it is connected. There is no offline mode: scanning, searching, pricing the cart and completing a sale all ask the server.
What the till does protect is the one risky moment: you select Complete sale and the answer never arrives.
What is kept in the browser
The cart and the attached customer, for each register. A page reload brings them back.
The id of a sale that was sent but not yet answered.
Both are kept in this browser only.
If Complete sale gets no answer
The till shows "No connection. The sale was not lost: press Complete again to retry it."
Leave the cart as it is
Do not change the cart, the customer, the discounts or the payment fields.
Wait for the connection, then select Complete sale again
The till sends the same sale with the same id.
If the first attempt was saved, the server answers with that sale. Nothing is sold twice.
If it was not saved, the sale is completed now.
Either way the Sale completed window opens with the receipt.
If you changed the cart first
When you select Complete sale with a different cart or different payments, the till first asks the server whether the earlier sale was saved.
It was saved. The till opens its Sale completed window and says "The last sale was completed before the connection dropped. Its receipt is shown; nothing was sold twice." The cart is emptied. Scan the new items again as a new sale.
It was not saved. The changed cart is completed as a new sale.
The till asks the same question when you reload the page or choose the register again.
When the answer is an error
A message that names what is wrong, for example "The payment is short by ….", means nothing was sold. So does "The till is busy. Try again in a moment." Fix it and complete the sale again.
Any other error answer, for example "Something went wrong. Please try again.", does not tell you whether the sale was saved.
"This sale is being completed. Wait a moment and try again." means an earlier attempt is still being saved. Wait, then check. If the sale is not there yet, check once more before you complete it again.
After every error answer the till forgets the unanswered sale, so the next Complete sale is sent as a new sale. Check first.
Check whether a sale was saved
The till has no list of recent sales. Use one of these:
The X-report. Select X-report in the top bar and compare Number of sales and the By payment type totals with what you expect. Only the person who opened the shift, the owner or a Shop Manager can open it.
The Order Report. A till sale is saved as an order, and its order number is the receipt number. Someone who can open Reports › Orders sets Order Source to Point of sale to list the till sales. See Order Report.
If the sale is there, select Clear the cart and start the next sale. If it is not, complete it again.
Returns
A return whose answer was lost is not refunded twice when you select Refund again on the same screen. Do not change the quantities, the reason or the card reference, select Find again or reload the page first.
If you did, select Find and read the Returnable column: items that were already refunded are no longer returnable.
