A store has one draft. Two people, or two tabs, can have it open at once. There is no lock: the editor notices saves made elsewhere, shows a banner under the top bar and lets you choose.
Someone else saved the draft
| Banner | Meaning |
|---|
| "… saved this draft at …." | A colleague saved |
| "You saved this draft in another tab at …." | The editor is open twice |
| "Someone else saved this draft at … (another tab or a colleague)." | The writer is not known |
| Button | Use it when |
|---|
| Save and merge | You have changes of your own. "Save now to merge your changes with theirs." |
| Load their version | You have not changed anything yet. "Load their version before you edit, so nothing has to be merged." |
Conflict
If your save meets a newer draft, the status reads Conflict: "The draft was saved elsewhere (another tab or a colleague). Keep your changes on top of it, or discard them and load theirs."
| Button | Result |
|---|
| Keep my changes | Your edits are applied on top of the newer draft as one step you can undo. "Your changes were kept on top of the newer draft." If something you edited was removed there, the message says how many changes were left out |
| Discard mine | Your unsaved edits are dropped and their draft is loaded. Undo cannot bring them back |
The publish dialog and version history offer Load their draft or Keep mine instead. Keep mine there saves your draft over theirs. Nothing is published until you choose.
Changes not saved
When a setting has a value the theme does not accept, the status reads Not saved and a banner lists each problem by page, section and field: "Changes not saved: …". Select a line to jump to the field.
Sections with problems carry a red number in the sidebar, and the page picker shows "(2 to fix)" beside the page. Fix them and the draft saves again.
Your Studio session has ended
If you are signed out while editing, a dialog says Your Studio session has ended. "Nothing is lost: your changes stay in this tab and are backed up on this device."
Open the editor again in a new tab
Leave the tab open. In a new tab, open your panel's Online Store page and select Customize.
Come back and retry
Return to the first tab and select Retry save.
Keep editing closes the dialog. A banner stays until the save succeeds: "Not saved: your Studio session ended. Your changes are kept on this device."
Open for a different shop
If you open another shop's editor in the same browser, the first tab can no longer save: "Studio is now open for a different shop in this browser. Your changes here are kept on this device — open this shop’s Studio from its panel, then retry."
Open Customize from that shop's panel again, then select Retry save.
Permission messages
| Message | Meaning |
|---|
| "You don't have permission to customize this storefront." | The Customize permission was removed from your account |
| "You don't have permission to publish this storefront." | You can edit but not publish. See Who can use Online Store and the editor |
