A gift card is a code with a balance. A customer buys it, or you issue it, and its holder spends it at your checkout. A sold gift card is not revenue: it is money you owe in goods until it is used.
Gift cards are bought on their own, with no other products, coupon, offer or delivery charge.
No tax is charged on the sale unless you ticked Charge tax when a gift card is sold.
The order is paid online. Cash or card on delivery is accepted only if you ticked Allow cash on delivery for gift cards.
It cannot be paid with the wallet or with another gift card.
The order cannot be changed, only cancelled. Cancelling it voids its cards; any part already spent stays spent.
Delivery
With Send it to someone else the buyer gives the recipient's name, e-mail address or phone number, and a message. Otherwise the cards go to the buyer's own e-mail address and phone number.
E-mail needs your shop's e-mail sending on and set up; ask support if it is not. It carries the sender's name and message, the value, the full code and the expiry date.
WhatsApp needs a connected account with the approved "Gift card" message template, under Shop › WhatsApp. It does not carry the message.
Delivery does not depend on marketing consent and is not held back by quiet hours.
If no channel can send, the card stays valid and its Delivery ends as Not delivered. Send it again from the card's page.

Expiry
A new card is valid for the period in your settings, or never expires, and keeps the expiry it was sold with. After that date, what is left is written off and the status becomes Expired.
The full code is only in the message to the recipient; the panel shows its last 4 characters.
