There are two kinds of saved card. They are switched on in different places and charged at different moments.
Saved cards at website checkout
Eight gateway cards have a Saved cards switch. It belongs to that gateway's website checkout. See Pay on the checkout page and the gateway's own page. Card numbers are kept by the provider, not by the platform. Only signed-in customers can save a card; guests never see or save cards.
Saved cards (tokenisation) on your CCAvenue account
These cards are charged at checkout, like any other card payment. The customer places the order and pays in the same step.
Saved cards in the customer app (STRIPE INTENT)
STRIPE INTENT is a separate entry in the Payment Gateways list. It uses the keys of the Stripe card. The website checkout does not offer it.
Customers add a card in the app, choose a default and can delete it. An order placed with a saved card is not charged when it is placed.
When the card is charged
The card is charged when you accept the order.
The charge is for what is still owed online: the order total minus any wallet balance and gift card used. If those paid everything, nothing is charged.
If the charge succeeds, the order is accepted.
If the card is declined, the order is not accepted and you see the reason. No unpaid saved-card order moves forward.
A second click on accept while the charge is running answers "This order is already being charged. Please wait a moment."
Refunds
Neither kind refunds through the panel. Refund in the provider's dashboard, then record it. See Refunds by payment method.
