Switch gift cards on, set how long they are valid, and choose which products are sold as gift cards.
Gift cards start switched off. Turning them on lets customers buy gift cards and pay with them at checkout.
The Gift cards link shows in Marketing Tools once gift cards are on, or once your shop has issued a card. A Shop Manager finds it directly on the top bar. Before that, there are two ways in. The shop owner opens Shop › Features and switches on Gift cards under Marketing & loyalty: see Turn features on. Or use the button in the first step below.
Skip this if you used Features. With gift cards off and no card ever issued, the Gift cards page shows only Sell gift cards and "Gift cards are off for your shop." Select Turn on gift cards. Your other gift card settings are kept, and the full page opens.
In Gift card settings:

| Charge tax when a gift card is sold | Shown only when tax is on for your shop, or when it is already ticked. The page advises: "Usually off: a gift card for anything in your shop is taxed when it is used, on the goods it pays for." |
| Allow cash on delivery for gift cards | Shown only while cash or card on delivery is an active payment method. Unticked, gift cards must be paid online |
| 3. Most a staff member can issue per card | The highest amount for one card issued by hand. Leave it empty to use the platform's limit. It cannot be set above that limit |
Select Save. The page answers "Gift card settings saved."
First create an ordinary product under Catalogue › Products. The form has no product picker: open the product and read the number that ends its page address (…/product/edit/123). Then, in Gift card products:

Select Sell as a gift card. The page answers "The product is sold as a gift card." and the product appears in the list as Product price or "Customer chooses" with the range.
A gift card product is sold on its own, without discounts or a delivery charge. See How gift cards work.
"Choose the product itself, not one of its variants: every variant becomes a gift card value." means the Product ID belongs to a variant. A page-not-found error means the number is not a product of your shop.
